Horoscope for the Week of April 25, 2004

25 April 2004

Mercury and Jupiter are the planets in Astrology that govern the lower and the higher mind respectively.

Tip of the Week: Mercury and Jupiter are the planets in Astrology that govern the lower and the higher mind respectively. Mercury is concerned largely with the realities of the here and now that are available to the five senses. Not surprisingly, the number 5 is symbolic of Mercury. Mercury is about perception, translation, communication, details, facts, exchange, and short distance travel etc.

Jupiter is much more philosophical and is interested in larger issues and considerations. Jupiter is also about perception, translation and communication yet leans towards ethics, truth, vision and meaning whereas Mercury is basically amoral.

Reason, logic and rational are faculties of the mind that link to both Mercury and Jupiter. However, these faculties of the mind tend to prove anything and everything seeking equal arguments for all sides of an issue, yet without a deeper or higher meaning, weakens character and undermines value. This is a fundamental problem in the world today where short-term thinking and goals are leading the entire planet into jeopardy and disaster.

Mercury acting without the higher-minded vision of Jupiter has leaded us and is leading us all towards major problems.

Where are the real leaders that can sway the politicians and economic leaders away from the insanity of more jobs at the expense of the environment? The "technosphere" is destroying the biosphere.

The vision of Jupiter is much needed so that meaning, vision and long-term thinking can revolutionize the thinking patterns of humanity.

Mercury is reactive whereas Jupiter is more pro-active. Both Mercury and Jupiter are currently retrograde, Mercury in Aries and Jupiter in Virgo.

Although each person will experience these influences in their own way, as is true in life, there are general themes. Mercury retrograde in Aries tends towards impatience, impulsive thinking and poor judgment, yet is prone to debate and proving oneself in the world at the expense of greater overall harmony. Jupiter retrograde indicates a lack of true perspective and behaves akin to Mercury thus not seeing the bigger picture. Further, the tendency towards an inflated spiritual ego attempting to express unrealistic beliefs and ideals can lead to problems. There is more to say about these themes and some of their challenges are included in this week's Horoscope.

Aries (Mar 21 Apr 20)

The process of building upon new ground includes meeting new people and making new friends. Mercury retrograde, however, may still be playing some tricks on you. Miscommunication, postponements, and other unexpected surprises are the most immediate examples. Impatience and impulsive thinking leading to poor judgment are the real culprits to identify. These could lead to expectations that both disappoint you and frustrate or hurt others. The key is to exercise faith, courage and positivism. The need for this may well continue throughout the year, especially if your birthday is on April 4th or later. Avoid making bigger things than they really are and taking on too much. Your main lesson now is to learn to be more empathetic and sensitive both towards yourself and others. Learn this lesson well and you will experience greater happiness and fulfillment.

Taurus (Apr 21 May 20)

The urge to act decisively is growing daily. You are ambitious and desire to have all your needs met. The key here is to make sure that your wants are not blinding you. Wants are more urgent and shallow than needs and they do have their place. However, if we live according to wants, then we will perpetuate need. Do you think that you really know the difference between the two in light of the important decisions and choices currently on your plate? If so, then count yourself among the few who do. Otherwise, you do well to contemplate the difference in light of the larger scope of your life. Make efforts to understand your own deeper nature now rather than aiming to keep others happy. Take your time to decide and wait until you feel sure.

Gemini (May 21 Jun 20)

Taking some time out to dream, reflect and/or do some soul searching continues, whether you are conscious of this process or not. However, you are probably more aware of it now than you were even just a week ago. You do want love and companionship along the way and making room for both may work best. Thoughts that lead to actions that are impractical and that lack any real meaning are the ones to watch. Somewhat the loner these days yet needy, the reform you desire in the world may well reflect your own personal needs, as well at least. On one hand you feel bold and expansive while on the other you feel insecure. To regain your center, focus on your whole health. While your bodily needs are valid, it is your emotional health that your focus. Start by learning to truly love yourself as you are here and now. Healthy self-esteem is the key to happiness!

Cancer (Jun 21 - Jul 21)

The time has come to nurture some new friendships. This may include business relations and joining clubs etc. and it especially includes learning how to be your own best friend. That the word friend implies others means that being one's own best friend involves self love, acceptance, acknowledgement and respect. As these qualities are exercised and integrated, the world of people who can be friends opens up for collaboration and cooperation. Finding a sense of direction may lead you to reflect on past achievements, yet they can only serve you as indications of your essential worth which actually transcends all actions. While the quantifying mind reduces everything, the qualitative mind honours you and all life just because it exists at all as a part of creation. Rather than run all over the place in your mind seeking answers, move towards your heart where you will discover all questions answered.

Leo (Jul 22 - Aug 21)

Your leadership is shining now and you feel strong. Bringing people together for social and educational purposes is a central theme. You are determined to shake things up and make things happen. The key is to communicate clearly and keep things simple. Over analysis and by trying to take in more information than you can comfortably digest will lead to problems. Bringing your feelings and your thoughts into alignment is necessary to enjoy what you have and the process of attaining what you want. Skills and personal power to perpetuate and respectable reputation as an authority may be your inner most desire at this time. You can have both especially in as much as you are willing and able to keep things simple. You have your reasons for wanting to understand the intricacies and you ability to share these in simple ways with others will bring success.

Virgo (Aug 22 - Sep 23)

You are thirsty for higher wisdom that comes under the category of practicality. To call you simple is an over simplification. To keep things simple is your goal. Yet you know that the simple can be complex. The secret for you now is to regenerate some of your thinking patterns. Be aware of negative thinking and make sincere efforts to weed them from your mind garden. This can be a full-time job and is especially important now and over the next couple of months. The simplest way to begin is to exercise gratitude for all that you are and have. The more heart you put into it the better. Do this daily in the morning starting with your self and spiraling outward to all the people, gifts and opportunities you have in your life. Gratitude is the key to humility, not to mention the attitude that brings altitude. The answer is simple; now simply do it!

Libra (Sep 23 - Oct 21)

This is a very regenerative time for us all and you are definitely in the thick of it. Perhaps it is your own story and or that of others that is pushing you inward seeking inner strength. This is a time of harvest in your public and professional life and you may be diligently working to reap the rewards and/or realizing that your 'farming' strategies require improvement. Seeds and harvest is a simple metaphor for all life. The quality of the seeds and the attention given during the growth cycle is basically the formula to understand. Efforts to understand yourself and others will occur as you try to understand according to their way of thinking. Watch for the use of the word "you" when speaking and replace it with "I" along with the other words appropriate to that lead. For example, "I feel…" I think…" I believe…." Or you can make statements like the following: "My sense of the situation is…" Speak from experience!

Scorpio (Oct 22 - Nov 20)

Building upon new foundations on relationship fronts is a central theme now. You want to expand the scope and quality of your connections, business, personal and otherwise. The key now is to relax and listen rather than try to hard to control situations or conversations. Further, you may get further ahead by organizing things rather than people. Focus on what you feel you should do and want to do to be productive towards daily duties and goals. This is a good time to be discerning before accepting duties and responsibilities that are not really yours. Do keep an open mind concerning the possibilities and let your ideals have their place. With focus, determination and follow through you can achieve goals that seem beyond your reach. Realize and affirm: "Energy goes where attention goes!"

Sagittarius (Nov 21 - Dec 20)

The process of securing the foundations of your lifestyle continues. You may be learning new skills, searching for new viable directions, reducing your debt load, making new connections or all of the above. In effect, life is bringing you closer down to earth. Through the process you are directly and perhaps vicariously going through a regeneration process. Your habitual perceptions, beliefs attitudes, values and behaviour patterns are undergoing a meltdown. Pride is the culprit and you do well to be aware. Pride is not prejudice and visits everyone. Yielding to pride's seductions is very easy to do. Charm, luxury and beauty can be the wolf's disguise. Acknowledge that yielding to the patterns of your own conditioning may not be a good idea and is certainly not necessary. This is where conscious choice enters the stage; invite this one into your home.

Capricorn (Dec 21 - Jan 19)

A creative and inventive mood continues. There are many fronts, errands and details to attend to and you are willing to put in the required effort. New commitments in your life are the source of your motivation. Some of these have to do with increasing your overall base of security. This may well include making more money. Although yours is a sign of realism and practicality, you may be steadily awakening to the fact that money is necessary but not enough to meet deeper security needs, not even a lot of money. Just ask someone who is very wealthy if they feel deeply secure about their life. Death is inevitable and no things can be taken with you. When it comes to commitments, you do well to enter new ones, at least, with caution. Take your time to negotiate terms. Honour your needs for freedom. However, other people do not hold us back as much as do the limits of our own mind and imagination. "Free your mind and the rest will follow!"

Aquarius (Jan 20 - Feb 19)

You are in an interesting place in your life. In the short term, you are ambitious yet feel the need to lay low and stay close to home. Alternatively, you are happy to meet new people and feel flirtatious, playful sporty. Meanwhile, your entire scope of values continues to undergo radical change as you awaken to the reality and importance of higher authority. In some respects, this may be actual worldly powers like governments or other power officials while in others altogether divine authority or that of nature is gaining your attention. All the while, you are idealistic about what needs to and can happen yet feel somewhat ineffectual towards realizing those goals. A sober acknowledgment of what needs to be done and what you can and cannot do alone is important. Yield your attention, support and devotion to higher authority.

Pisces (Feb 20 - Mar 20)

Bringing your dreams, ideals, knowledge and wisdom down to earth is the main theme for you now. Do not look back or rely too much on the past. If your traditional talents can assist you make use of them! Otherwise, look to new skills to either replace or to compliment your approach. Renovations of your basic mind-set and attitude are important. The key is to face your fears, be diligent in your efforts and patient with the process. This is generally true in life and particularly so now. Becoming aware of your own subconscious beliefs and behaviour patterns is truly ideal. The ability to see without judgment or reaction is the mark of spiritual strength. To admit that you could be wrong and be willing to take another approach is the next level of this strength. Affirm: "There is always another way!"
